🚀 Be part of a movement to change the way Europe pays
In today’s digital Europe, payments still feel too complicated. Random delays, confusing rules, extra apps and accounts make it harder than it should be to pay and get paid.
The European Payments Initiative is changing that with Wero, a proudly European digital wallet to make payments easier, clearer and more secure. Online, in store, at home and across borders, with your money and data protected under European laws and regulations.
Wero is live in Belgium, France and Germany and launching very soon in Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Backed by 16 major banks and the two largest European acquirers, we’re building a brand new, proudly European payment system. Why not join us?
🔎 What's in it for you
We’re hiring an Engineering Manager for Security to embed security at the very core of our technology and culture.
In this role, you'll shape your team's vision and objectives, establish clear goals, and drive continuous process improvements. Work closely with senior management to ensure technical roadmaps align with business objectives, boosting productivity and quality. You will connect the security with other engineering teams, fostering collaboration and building a scalable, secure and cost-efficient infrastructure that is easy to use, and fulfills regulatory requirements.
🐝 About the team
You’ll be part of a fully remote Pan-European Product and Engineering team that operates in an Agile environment. You will lead a talented security team with cloud security and application security engineers located across Europe.
💥 Your impact
Shape and execute the security engineering strategy, embedding modern DevSecOps and secure-by-design principles throughout our SDLC.
Lead and mentor a team of security and platform engineers, coaching them to grow technically and align with the EPI security vision.
Architect secure cloud environments and ensure robust identity and access management practices (IAM, RBAC, authentication protocols).
Strengthen compliance readiness by implementing best-practice frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2) and supporting audit preparation and documentation.
Collaborate across teams (Security, Platform, and Product) to provide holistic, documented solutions that balance innovation with protection.
💻 Technology stack
Core technologies: Kotlin, Ktor, MongoDB, OpenAPI, Docker
Infrastructure: Cloud, Kubernetes, Terraform, Datadog, GitHub Actions
Practices & tools: DevSecOps, CI/CD, Monitoring, Alerting, Security Automation
Bonus exposure: Event Sourcing, Technical Audits, Security Frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2)
🕵🏻♀️ To succeed, you should meet at least 70% of these requirements
+10 years of professional experience in cyber security engineering
A first experience in a leadership role within an engineering-focused department, with a proven track record of managing successful teams and delivering highly scalable infrastructure
Desire to spend approximately 50% of your time hands-on, making informed decisions while identifying technical risks
Ability to contribute to both technical and business strategy, understanding how engineering decisions impact overall business objectives
Strong experience in Security engineering, and a track record of designing, building and maintaining highly secure infrastructure platforms and complex products
Fluent in English (CEFR C1 or C2); French, German or Dutch or any additional European languages is a plus
Experience in the payment or financial services industry is a plus
🪜 If this looks like you, the recruitment steps are:
A first call with one of our recruiters
A first technical interverview
A leadership interview
A final interview with our CPTO
Hopefully, an offer you can’t refuse
⛔ Turn back if …
You prefer a highly structured corporate setup with predefined processes and no ambiguity.
You’re not comfortable splitting your time between hands-on technical work and people leadership.
You see security as a gatekeeper rather than an enabler of innovation.
