As a Fraud Data Scientist at EPI, you’ll work on high-impact projects protecting a wide range of payment transactions, cards, instant payments, and beyond, across Europe. You’ll design and validate advanced fraud scoring models, apply cutting-edge AI and anomaly detection techniques, and turn complex data into actionable insights.
🐝 About the team
You will be part of a talented team composed of 2 Fraud Data Scientist and Manager and finally a Fraud Analyst distributed across Belgium, France, Germany and Danemark.Together, you’ll safeguard EPI against fraud risks while shaping the future of European payments.
💥 Your impact
Act as the primary liaison for designing, training, and deploying fraud scoring models. Oversee their performance to ensure quality and KPI alignment while contributing technical expertise.
Monitor fraud detection systems, analyze transactional data, and respond to emerging threats or high-risk events
Work closely with internal teams (Engineering, Scheme, Product) to align fraud strategies and expand scoring services. Facilitate ongoing communication with EPI Members on fraud-related topics
Serve as a fraud risk expert, advising on business strategies and ensuring methodological consistency
Prepare dashboards, performance reports, and support vendor management processes
💻 Technology stack
Python, SQL, Databricks, PySpark
🕵🏻♀️ To succeed, you should meet at least 70% of these requirements
+5 years as a Fraud Data Scientist or in a similar role in the payments industry (preferably issuing and acquiring experience)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and lead initiatives
Strong time management, decision-making, and prioritization abilities
Fluent in English (CEFR level C1 or C2); additional European languages such as French, German, or Dutch are a plus
Proven ability to build strong relationships and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
Advanced knowledge of Data Science, AI, and Deep Learning applied to fraud detection and scoring
Experience with IBM Safer Payments, Feedzai or similar fraud prevention tools
Hands-on experience with supervised and semi-unsupervised anomaly detection techniques
Proficient in problem framing, translating complex business problems into clear data science questions
Experienced in designing and implementing robust validation frameworks
Ability to communicate insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders
Focused on business impact, prioritizing solutions that reduce fraud losses while minimizing false positives
Experienced in mentoring junior data scientists and promoting best practices
Skilled in user-centric design, tailoring dashboards for clarity and accessibility
Strong in data storytelling, structuring dashboards and reports to deliver a clear narrative
Ability to simplify metrics using intuitive KPIs and risk scores
